The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Alliance4Safety (A4S) and 31 importers and brands of residential bedroom furniture have announced the voluntary recall of furniture tip restraint kits manufactured by New Age Industries Company, Ltd., of Vietnam.
The tip restraint kits include a plastic zip tie, two brackets and two screws in a white plastic package attached to clothing storage units manufactured in Vietnam, supplied to furniture manufacturers and importers, and sold in U.S. stores and online since November 2019. Alliance4Safety, an educational resource promoting safe and healthy homes, is administering the recall on behalf of the participating companies and brands.
The plastic zip tie within the recalled furniture tip restraint kits can become brittle or break, which can allow a clothing storage unit that is anchored to the wall to detach during a furniture tip-over event. This poses a tip-over and entrapment hazard that can result in death or serious injury to children.
Furniture companies have received two reports of the New Age tip restraints breaking. There have been no reported injuries.
The CPSC recall notice and the New Age recall information page on the Alliance4Safety website (www.alliance4safety.org) advise consumers to check whether their clothing storage furniture was made in Vietnam with a manufacture date of November 2019 or later. If so, and if the tip restraint is made of plastic, consumers are advised to contact Alliance4Safety for a free replacement tip restraint kit.
The Alliance4Safety website provides an order form for consumers to request free replacement tip restraint kits. Alliance4Safety also established a toll-free number for consumers (855-416-7370) as well as an email for consumer inquiries: info@alliance4safety.org. The website provides guidance to help consumers identify whether their furniture came with one of the recalled tip restraints. It also advises them to keep children away from furniture that is anchored with a recalled tip restraint until the replacement can be installed. Instructions for installing the new restraint also are posted on the Alliance4Safety website.

The recalled New Age tip restraint kits came in a white plastic package with black lettering and were attached to clothing storage units with a manufacture date of November 2019 or later. The bottom of the packaging includes the statement “Manufactured by New Age Industries Co., LTD” along with a Vietnam mailing address.
