The Alliance4Safety – AHFA’s public outreach arm for issues related to consumer health and safety – has distributed more than 2,500 replacement tip kits to consumers responding to the recall of New Age tip restraint devices in January.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and 31 importers and brands of residential bedroom furniture announced the voluntary recall on January 11. The targeted tip restraint kit was manufactured by New Age Industries of Vietnam and included a plastic zip tie, two brackets and two screws. It was attached to clothing storage units manufactured in Vietnam and sold in U.S. stores and online since November 2019.
The Alliance4Safety (A4S) provided a central website with information on the recall and an order form for consumers to request up to 5 replacement tip kits. The website also provides instructions for installing the new restraint. In addition to the website, A4S supplied a toll-free number as well as an email address for consumers seeking additional information on the recall.
The 31 participating AHFA member companies and brands all provided a link to the A4S website from their corporate website home pages. To further broadcast the recall, A4S launched a social media campaign from January 11 to February 10 with over 23 million impressions and nearly 70,000 click-throughs to the A4S website.
