Furniture Makers Focus on Helping Americans Create a Haven to Nurture Wellbeing

When consumer confidence goes low, the home furnishings industry goes high … high comfort, high function, high familiarity.

The twice-yearly High Point Market opens Saturday, April 26, under a cloud of plummeting consumer confidence. Trade war rhetoric and economic uncertainty are reflected in the most recent University of Michigan consumer sentiment index, which registered the second lowest reading (50.8) since 1952.

“During times of economic uncertainty and widespread discontent, Americans rely on their homes to serve as a haven from the outside world,” says Patricia Bowling, vice president of communications for the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA). “Furnishings introduced this week in High Point will help consumers create spaces that nurture wellbeing, ease tension and simplify the burdens of daily life.”

Textiles emphasize calming hues and patterns along with luxurious textures, while warm wood tones and frequent integration of natural materials like grasscloth, raffia and stone connect new designs to nature. Designs frequently reflect thoughtful updates to familiar forms, but those seeking an artful escape from the ordinary will not be disappointed.

Most introductions at this week’s High Point Market will begin appearing in stores in fall of 2025. This summary of those new products was assembled by AHFA and represents all styles and price points of residential furniture for the U.S. market. (Company locations listed are High Point Market showrooms, not company headquarters. Company contacts listed are for media inquiries.)

With more than 40 new designs, including furniture, lighting and accessories, along with more than 20 items for outdoor living, Palecek demonstrates the breadth of its capabilities this market. As usual, new products feature a variety of handcrafted natural materials, but, as elsewhere in the market, stone takes the spotlight this spring. Part of the Jeffrey Alan Marks collection, the Belport stool uses natural arabia stone in tan and beige fluted details that are inlaid over a hardwood frame. The 32-inch-high Tahoe Console mimicks the appearance of shifting layers of sedimentary rock. This extraordinary fiberglass table is cast from a mold that is hand-formed by stones. The top is inlaid with a natural stone featuring fossilized striations reminiscent of the growth rings inside of a tree trunk, lending it the nickname of "wood stone.” www.palecek.com
